Living the Resurrection!

Today marks the beginning of Holy Week for Christians across the world. It’s a time to remember the suffering, death, and resurrection of the Beloved Jesus Christ. I often ask myself why we continue to live this out every year. Christ is Risen! He rose centuries ago and is alive and well in each of us. As a hospice Social Worker, I was present with those transitioning. I often had the privilege of working with family members after their loss guiding them through their grief. Celebrating a life well lived was often the focus. I often encouraged family members to honor the memory of their loved ones on anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays. Doing this would offer healing and peace to families.

I have never understood why we continue to remember the suffering and death of Jesus instead of living the resurrection. Yes, we are human and live in a fragile and broken world. Jesus’s message to each of us reflected his redemption. His death and resurrection was our redemption. We redeemed Christians. It is so easy to fall into the trap of “I am not worthy, I am not good enough.” It is no longer valid. Living a life of redemption is courageous. It means that we must care for and have compassion for our neighbors. We are meant to live joyful lives, grateful for all of the gifts offered. Our lives will be transformed When we can focus on the beauty of our lives with love and gratitude. Spring is a time of renewal of new beginnings! Can you commit to walking alongside your neighbor as Jesus did? Being present can be very healing when others are struggling. It brings hope to another in a weary world.

This week spend time reflecting on the many blessings in your life. Be thankful. Be courageous! Step outside of your bubble and offer kindness to an isolated neighbor. We are the light in this world; let your light shine!
